Ingmar update 1.8 introduces a new TMDB language setting, a dedicated options page, more reliable imports, and several improvements to permalink management and image handling. This update makes it easier to manage movie and TV databases in different languages while reducing unnecessary API requests and fixing issues that could affect your site’s content.
New TMDB Options Page
TMDB API settings have been moved to a dedicated Options Page, providing a more organized place to configure the theme’s API integration and language preferences.
Multilingual TMDB Data
The biggest addition in Ingmar 1.8 is the new TMDB language setting, available directly from the theme’s Options Page.
You can now choose the language used to fetch TMDB data from six supported options:
- English (US)
- Spanish
- Portuguese (Brazil)
- French
- Italian
- German
The selected language applies to imported overviews, taglines, genres, and actor/director biographies. The TMDB Maintenance tool and individual photo refresh actions on Actor and Director edit screens also retrieve biographies in the configured language.
Release dates and status labels are now displayed in the selected language without requiring changes to your templates. The original TMDB status value is preserved in the database and translated when displayed on the frontend.
Status labels use the ingmarwp text domain, making them translatable with Loco Translate. Ingmar 1.8 also includes built-in translations for all six supported languages.
Better Slug Management
The update also improves slug management for Movies, Series, Reviews, Actors, Directors, and Genres. Slug values are now sanitized and automatically fall back to their defaults when left empty.
Permalinks are now refreshed automatically after saving the Options Page. If you change a slug, you no longer need to open WordPress Permalink Settings and save the settings manually just to prevent potential 404 errors.
Improved Trailer Import
Ingmar 1.8 improves how trailers and other videos are retrieved from TMDB.
When a title has no Trailer available, the importer now falls back to a Teaser when one exists. If no suitable video is found in the selected language, Ingmar retries the search in English before leaving the video field empty.
This provides a more reliable way to import available promotional videos without requiring manual intervention.
More Efficient Genre Imports
Genres are now retrieved directly from the main TMDB API response, eliminating an additional API request during every import.
Ingmar 1.8 also removes an unused genre-list request and fixes a stray wp_send_json_error() call that could interrupt a normal post save when a request failed.
These changes streamline the import process and help prevent unnecessary API calls and save interruptions.
Better Poster and Backdrop Handling
Titles without poster or backdrop images on TMDB no longer save default image URLs in the Poster URL and Backdrop URL fields.
The theme also now provides a fallback image for titles without posters, using placeholder.png instead of rendering nothing when a poster is unavailable.
This helps maintain a consistent appearance across movie and TV listing layouts, including cases where TMDB has incomplete image data.
Update to Ingmar 1.8
Ingmar update 1.8 focuses on making everyday database management more reliable and flexible. With multilingual TMDB imports, improved video fallbacks, automatic permalink refreshing, better image handling, and fewer unnecessary API requests, this release further refines the tools you use to build and maintain a movie and TV database in WordPress.
